Greetings,
I am cross posting this from the SCA Equestrian list and the Trimarian
Cavalry list as we may have equestrians not on either list who will be making
the trek to Gulf Wars this year.
These changes affect the Emprise only at this time.
In Service,
THL Brenna Caitlin MacGrioghair of Renwick
<<Greetings all from the Company of St Anne,
There will be several changes made in the format of the Emprise tourney
sponsored by the Company of St. Anne and held at Gulf War next year.
This is meant to give you advanced notice of the changes that will most
impact participation in the tourney.
A web site devoted to the Emprise will be set up in the near future, in order
to provide complete details on rules, entry requirements, and format changes.
Resource information will also be provided to help you fulfill the
requirements. The requirement changes are an attempt to bring a higher level
of authenticity to the Emprise type tournament. The format changes are an
attempt to make the tourney run a little faster and make it more exciting to
watch.
This Emprise will be run in the style of the mounted portion of a Western
European "Fete de Armes" of the 13th thru 15th centuries. Such a tourney
would have included runs at the Quintain, Rings and Jousting. We won't be
doing the Jousting part. Sorry. As this tournament is meant to be
representative of tourneys done in a given place and time, all participants
dress, be it human or horse, is expected to conform to the standards of that
time and place, within reason. What that means specifically is: no
non-European stuff.
The changes in format will be explained in detail on the new web site. What
will be explained here are the changes in entry requirements that will most
impact participation.
We wanted to give you all as much lead-time as possible.
1.) Each rider is required to have full barding/trapper for his or her horse,
of a heraldic nature. The arms displayed may be the rider's personal arms,
device or badge of their Kingdom or home group, or those of a tourney or
other company to which they belong. The barding must cover the horse, saving
only that you may leave the head and neck uncovered if you wish. But
forequarters and hindquarters must be covered. No strap barding or other
types will be allowed. Regardless of whether this is true to your persona or
not, it is a requirement for entry into this Emprise.
2.) While helms with crests are still required for runs at the quintain, a
rider may now
wear the crested helm for the entire tourney if they wish. It is
requested that a
helm
of some type, or other period headgear, be worn during the tourney. No
modern
riding helms will be allowed unless well disguised.
Crests do not have to be made of period materials but should be made so
as to
conform to period heraldic practice as regards to appearance. i.e.
there should
be no nonsense such as a pink fuzzy bunny stuck onto a helmet as a
crest.
Anything like
that will be rejected at the discretion of the judges and that rider
will not
participate in the tourney.
Along with a crest it is requested that each helm also have a Torse and
Mantling.
These items are not required, but are recommended for the spirit of the
tourney
and the fullest display of heraldry.
3.) It is requested that all who participate use tack appropriate to the time
span given above. We understand that this is not possible for everyone due to
time or finances, therefore there is no restriction on the type of saddles
used except these:
No saddles without stirrups.
No sidesaddles.
The above are not true in fact or spirit to the type of tourney being
represented here.
Any questions may be addressed to Master Julian le Scot at: svenable at juno.com
Letters of Venancy and Heraldic info (when requested) is still to be sent to
myself.
Sir Manfred von Rothenburg,
Company of St Anne>>
