It hasn't been proven that the person banished actually did something
bad. So, the reason for the banishment and the person's SCA name are
withheld to protect the individual's reputation if the investigation
determines that no wrong-doing occured. This also protects the SCA from
a slander/libel type lawsuit.

Eric Mauer was given an absolute banishment by Duncan and Larissa
because the SCA Board of Directors required them to do so. He was
banished for being a bad bookkeeper as treasurer for his local group.

The SCA is following theft procedures set down by the Society
Exchequer. These procedures can be found on the Ansteorra webpage in
the Treasurer's section.

Corpora states:
"Absolute banishment may only be imposed when the person has endangered
public health or safety, or disturbed the peace of an event in a manner
which would make it reasonable for the modern authorities to be called
in
for assistance, or has taken actions in the course of performing
official
duties on behalf of the SCA that would cause the modern authorities to
be
called in for assistance, or has taken other actions that directly
affect
and endanger the Society."

The key phrase is "has taken actions in the course of performing
official
duties on behalf of the SCA ... that directly affect and endanger the
Society." The BoD has long felt that being a bad bookkeeper endangers
the SCA's tax-exempt status. Rather than try to improve training and
procedures, they set down punishments.
