[Ansteorra] History/Enculturation/Cliquishness....

I find it interesting to see these stories from people who went to events
knowing they were not capable of setting up their camp and apparently
did not make any arrangements to have someone help them. I am a bit
appalled that someone would come right out and admit that, let alone
get irate when help failed to materialize.

We sometimes take a grand enough camp that it is a long, slow
process to set it up or take it down. We have been thankful when
friends helped out but we can and have done it ourselves. We plan to
do the work ourselves or we make arrangements to have help and to
offer something in exchange.

We found ourselves embarrassed at the recent Mudsea Springflood in
that we simply were not able to re-pack our whole camp ourselves and
cart it the rather respectable distance to dry(ish) ground through the
slog of mug. Some of our friends came to our rescue and worked far
above and beyond what we had any right to expect. But if they had not
stayed to help, would it have been right to offer them dishonor? I think
not. My camp, my problem. Help is a gift.

BTW, at Mudsea I pushed or helped push out 7 vehicles from deep
mud. My cadet assisted with a half dozen that I know of. Many other
people assisted in moving more than a score of mired autos in very
nasty conditions. I saw many people from the King to a lady at her
second event pitching in to see that everyone made it off that wretched
site.
