[Ansteorra] Too many events?

Romanius -
I will admit to having been out of the loop for a while. Would you
please show me where the requirement to hold at least one event a year and
two for baronies is published? Corpora says that Baronies should have "a
strong record of activity in a variety of fields of Society endeavor."
Kingdom Law does require Baronies to have events on their perpetual event
date, but this may be waived with a petition from the Baron/Baroness.
Kingdom Law says that baronies must have "A record of at least two (2) years
of regular activity including hosting events in all fields of Society
endeavor." Ok, we have to have Crown, Coronation, Queens, A&S, Eisteddfod,
Kings College, Archer, Academies of Rapier & Bow, King's Lancer, but many of
these are held in conjunction with other events, and only Crown and
Coronation are protected from conflict on the calendar.
Perhaps I am old fashioned and my views are a bit dated, but as my
participation is limited, I do usually choose to attend the events where I
can sit and watch the persona play. I will be at Squires, because I very
much enjoyed watching the tournament in the afternoon that was/will be open
only to knights. They may take their squires and men at arms to fight with
them, but they are responsible for taking ransoms and for ransoming their
men if they see fit. I hope to see you on the field with your squires.
I maintain that if we didn't feel the need to rush together so many
events, we could take the time to do some research and put together really
nice events. Since I only get to very few events, I prefer that they not
all be the same 'cookie cutter' event: best two of three single elim
tournament, stick the rapier guys off in a corner, an A&S contest by
populace vote, baronial court, and then everybody can go have pizza. I'd
rather attend the Cloth of Gold.

Greetings all,

Perhaps I'm not seeing something, but how will offering fewer events create
a different type of tourney? If a group puts on a new and different type of
tourney, like say a barrier tourney, that event will draw more fighters who
are looking for something new and different. Heck, it would be sort of like
a market mentality. Those groups that put on really good events will draw
the most people...H'mmmm.

Not to mention, there has been a proliferation of events on the calendar due
to the number of groups in the Kingdom. Remember, every group is supposed
to hold at least one event a year...Baronies have to hold two. There are
only 52 weeks in the year. If you do the math you'll see that that right
there is enough to fill the calendar with one or two events each weekend.
The add Kingdom events (Crown, coronation) on top of that, Gulf Wars, and so
on. Perhaps if we limited each group to one event per year with Baronies
only having two...That would open up the calendar and let groups have more
time to focus on their one (or two) events per year.

Oh yea, and maybe some people like having the choice of several events to go
to on a weekend...

Sir Romanius
