Dear Lady Annes,

Call it what you will. I'm just having fun with it.

Sorry if you've taken offense,
Pendaran

While I agree that "gate" and "gatekeeper" are probably the historically
accurate term, I really must protest these efforts, to totally change
various terminology of the Society to what is more "accurate". Troll,
Feastocrat, Autocrat, etc. were and are recognized throughout Society as
what they are, the gate, the cook, etc. And most important....they are FUN.
I firmly believe this is an '"anachronistic" society....not an
"authenticity" society. I am saddened to see a number of folk changing
their speech habits because other people seem to think that such terms have
seen their time and need now to be replaced with such unromantic and dull
words like "gatekeeper" and "head cook". I will be calling "gate" as
"troll" until I either quit the Society or keel over dead (which is the more
likely of the two). I feel that the old terms were good enough for the
founders, by golly, they are good enough for me. (Gosh, I never realized
that I'm a "family traditionalist" at heart). While I certainly will not
try to stop anyone from calling "troll" as "gate", I wish those others would
quit trying to get me and others like me from calling "gate" as "troll". I
don't try to correct them from saying "gate" and have not heard someone try
to get the "gate" people to say "troll". But I would say in the past 4 or 5
years, I have been corrected to the point of feeling belittled and
personally attacked by someone else rather vehemently telling me "You mean
GATE, don't you.....trolls don't exist!"

Now before someone asks or insinuates, neither Pendaran nor Michael have
ever done this to me nor have I ever heard of them acting in that manner to
others. It is persons other than them who have done so. While they
(Pendaran and Michael) seem to take it as a "This is my pet peeve and if I
can get someone to say gate instead of troll, well and good, but that is as
far as it goes.", I can't really say the same for all who either share their
peeve or have been influenced by them to change their speech habits. My pet
peeve is rapidly becoming those who have taken the "authenticity" vs.
"anachonism" viewpoints to the point of not letting others "live and let
live".

Annes
Dear God, Help me to be the person
my dog thinks I am. Amen
