Greetings Your Excellency,
I appreciate your posting of the very beginning of our Kingdom laws that
pertains to the Rights and Duties of the Crown. It is always proper to
consult our Kingdom Laws. I hadn't looked there.

Please excuse me but, "As they deem necessary," is not in my original
posting. Again it says in Kingdom Law in the section pertaining to Kingdom
Events (pg 24 fall 2001):

>B. Crown Tournaments shall be conducted on dates acceptable to the crown
>as
> provided below.
> 1. The Spring Crown Tournament shall be conducted in the month of April.
> (Amended March 23, 2002 by TRM Aaron and Britta and published in the May
> Black Star)
> 2. "The Fall Crown Tourney shall be conducted in the month of October."

"...acceptable to the crown as PROVIDED BELOW."

Ok......... is the change of the date of Crown Tourney an Edict or a
Statute?

I believe this to be an Edict and to change the date of Crown Tourney is in
conflict of an existing statute and has, at this time, not been published in
our Kingdom News Letter....

And if TRH have spoken their wishes it's still, "subject to the Corpora and
Bylaws of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc."

Corpora says, "No provision of law shall be in effect, nor shall the
subjects of a realm be responsible for such provision, until such
proclamation and publication have taken place.

It won't be published until at least September.

Arabella -

Your quote from Corpora specifically says that "The Crown or the Coronet may
make and amend such laws of their realm, as they deem necessary"

Their Highnesses have requested the change, and these events will take place
during their reign. Their Highnesses were considerate to inform us of this
change now, rather than waiting until after Coronation. I would also refer
you to Kingdom Law:

ARTICLE I: RIGHTS & DUTIES OF THE CROWN
Section 1: Laws & Proclamations

1. The rights, duties, and powers of the Crown of Ansteorra rest equally
and jointly with the sovereign and the Consort.
2. The Word of the Crown, written or spoken, is law, subject to the Corpora
and Bylaws of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.
3. There shall be two classes of law. These shall be edict and statute.
4. Edict shall be defined as any lawful command of the Crown, and shall
have the force of statute for the period of time proclaimed, but not to
exceed the duration of the reign in which it is proclaimed. Edicts of more
than 30 days duration, or which conflict with existing statutes, must be
published in the first available Kingdom newsletter and signed by the
Sovereign and the Consort. The published Edict must specify any portion of
Statutory law that it affects.
5. Statutory law shall be the continuing body of law in the Kingdom. To
change Statutory law, a new law must be published in the Kingdom newsletter
or must be mailed as a separate mailing to all persons receiving the
newsletter, and signed by the Sovereign, the Consort, and the Kingdom
Seneschal.
6. The law of the Kingdom shall be applied equally to all subjects of the
Realm. In the event that a subject of the Realm shall adopt an alternate
persona, said persona shall be subject to all the laws and proclamations
pertaining to his or her original persona.
