Okay...let me tell you why I disagree with you here.  If the purpose of the
board is to set up some way to cover corporate costs that are still incurred
by non members, then it doesn't have a need in kingdom.

How many on this list are homeowners, or have renters insurance.  How many
of you passed out when you saw your insurance bills for 2002.  I know I did!
The terrorist attack losses and the flooding we had in Texas caused mine to
go up 25%.  Liability like what the SCA has, was the hardest hit.  The sites
can require us to cover all the people who attend.  If five are members and
100 are not. Where is that money going to come from?  If $1 can stay in
kingdom then perhaps the surcharge should be $2.

Besides does the Kingdom treasury really want to start depending on monies
that work cross purpose to the goal?   Think about this.  When the board
asked us to comment on membership loss, we had many ideas on how to help
them.  If we keep the money in kingdom, where is the incentive to add new
members?  We start to benefit from a ground level from people who are not
members, and there will be even less benefits to membership.

If it is a hassle for me to collect the surcharge and send it in...what am I
going to do?

I AM GOING ON A MEMBERSHIP DRIVE!  I am going to put membership forms at the
gate, have them sign up, give the SCA a check and send it in with the
surcharge.  That is one less surcharge I have to collect and send in next
time.  Perhaps we can ask the board approve an amendment to their proposal.
if we have them sign up at the gate, we can waive the surcharge for that
event.  Either send them $3 or a new member.  I think I am going to send
that suggestion to the board today.   In fact evidence bares this out.  If
you noticed in the minute notes.  The Pennsic gate coordinator said they got
something like 20,000 memberships or renewals when they sold them outside
the gate for the Pennsic discount, but only 2000 when it was inside the gate
for no refund.

I don't think they are trying to kill our fun, I think they are trying to
make sure we get to have it in this unfortunate age of paranoia.
