Random comments from an interested observer:

The 5 shot ballista rocked. That was a great way to put a lot of fire into the
enemy.

I stepped up and acted as spotter for some of the engines. The problem is that
shooting over the castle wall toward a target you cannot see is difficult to do
unless you have someone to spot for you and tell you how to adjust your range
and aim. Even if you practice with your weapon a lot, odds are you do not get
much "over the wall" practice. We need that sort of practice and even the
spotters need practice.

Bryn Gwlad trained and authorized a number of people for siege this year even
though those individuals did not have engines to crew. This provided extra siege
crew when some of the engines came up short personnel or some crew was
killed by arrows.

We could possibly coordinate a bit better on letting the siege people know who is
siege qualified. We should also work to train lots more people to be spotters. In
the noise of the battle it may even be necessary for someone to spot and yell to a
relay who will yell to the siege crew. LOTS of fighters have nothing to do for the
first 20 minutes of the castle battles so the more of them who can spot and even
crew the better.

I found it easy to end up too close to the front of an engine in the castle. I am not
sure how to deal with this but as an archer I had to move around in the castle
looking for shots and I found myself too close to an engine a couple of times. It
was hard to find a path through the castle that was not a problem. Placement of
the engines may have been able to be better for traffic flow but I am not sure
what else to do to fix this. Maybe mark off a zone on the ground with chalk or
survey tape or something.

I hope this is helpful.

Dore
