Personally, I would ditch the hall for feast and tell everyone to bring tables
and chairs and eat in the barn or the ring and sit with whomever they like!  I
think it is awful that anyone should ever be expected to leave just because
there is not enough space... Besides, do you expect those people to come back
for court after feast?  if your hall only seats 100 and there are 300 in
attendance, it is going to be an interesting court.

On the other hand, situations like you present are one of several  reasons why
people don't bother to stay for feasts anymore, which was why this thread was
begun.  Frankly, if my friends could not afford or eat the feast and were asked
to leave, I would also leave.
