[Ansteorra] best of the best

Ah, now newcomer Zach Hellbilly, Steppes Warlord would be what you seek. An
event where not only the best of the best come out to fight, but where you
can share an ale and a story with them after the deed.

Steppes Warlord is held every year in May. 2003 saw the 30th anniversary of
that event and the Gods of weather saw fit to rain (and many other things)
upon us _after_ the grand tournament. The Gods respect a good fighting
tournament.

Leadership is a different issue altogether. Sitting around, sharing the ale,
and a story about the good fight would be just as fun as standing and
fighting with them to gain a new skill or insight into the grand adventure
we call the SCA.

If it stagnation that you fear from your peers once you have gained more
skill than you know what to do with, travel to a new area, Texas/Oklahoma
has it all! ;)

crown.  That if I want to see the best of the best, then that is where I
should go to watch fighting.  But how can this be true.  It seems that this
would only be the best of the best that also want to dedicate the next six
months life and their savings accounts to the dream.  Is there any other
venue that attracts the best fighters in one place for a tournament?

: In a similar vain I find it best to be in a circle where the warriors
around you are all better then yourself.  It is truly the best place to
learn and grow your skills.  I would love to one day fight in a tourney with
the best but I don't desire to be King.  So where does one truly test ones
skills once they have reached that level if they have no desire to rule?
