I understand how you feel.

But there are some people who "contribute" but use it as a reason to "bully" honest people, so that the bully gets their way.

There are also others who make a minimal contribution but cause many
more problems than any contribution they will ever make.

One of my criteria for any award is determining whether their contribution
to the SCA outweighs their detriment to the SCA. There are people who
do some really awesome stuff....but the chaos that they cause their local
group and for other people in the kingdom because of their unwillingness
to "play nice with others" or "follow the rules" or "demand their way"...etc
far outweighs any contribution to the SCA they will ever have...

With love and respect,

is unfair to both them and our kingdom. Labeling someone as such does
nothing but cause hurt feelings and could possibly cause that person to stop
what they've been doing to contribute, and that in turn is bad for the
kingdom.

Who are we to judge someone's motives for contributing to our game? No
matter what motivates people to fight, perform, or volunteer, their
contributions are welcome and needed to keep our society functioning. If
you were autocrating an event and had a shortage of help, would you only
accept volunteers who were doing it out of "love"? Would you even ask or
care if there were ulterior motives?

I know people who could fight (or perform or work etc...) for their entire
lives and not get a single award and yet they would still continue. I also
know people who feel that serivce or talent of any sort should be rewarded,
and strive for the positive feedback of awards. Who is to say that one does
better service to our kingdom than the other?

To me, no matter the motive, a person's donations to our society are worthy
and cherished. As long as the efforts made are to better our kingdom, no
one should be scrutinized for the source of their motivation.

Yours in Service and Song,
Lady Angelique Le Woulfe
