Mine was St. Dunstin's Flood ... I mean Fair
This was the spring after TFYC
Ivar, who was event steward (Autocrat), took the time to introduce
This newbie to a galaxy of stellar people I still call family
To this the memory of the warriors entering the hall after war gives me
chills

My first event was the first Ansteorrian Crown Tourney. I believe it was
in
1979. It was held at a beautiful but muddy grove of pecan trees in Bryn
Gwlad. I wore a white peasant shirt belted over my jeans and square toe
boots. At the time I was on the South West Texas State Fencing Team so I

competed in the Rapier List. I broke three of my best Russian epee
blades.
The first exposure to the people of the SCA was a young lady (Megan
Glinleven) and a young man (The Dread Pirate Trey Lucien). I had just
crawled out of my pup tent when I noticed them walking towards me, they
were
loudly discussing who had seen me first , and who's I was to be; I was
praying that the young lady would win. I then made the mistake, on the
advice of Joeffrey de Ambergien, of asking Sir Balthazar of Endor, a
Freudian Zen Druid, a question about Celtic symbolism. This took quite a

while. That night I was drawn to the tavern, a GP medium (a green army
tent
barely the size of my living room), that a bunch of people had crowded
in
to, and were drinking and singing IRA songs led by Finn Kelly O'Donnell
(he
wasn't a Knight yet then). On Sunday after I had my car pulled out of the
mud
I packed my bags and went home. It had all been Magic!
