[Ansteorra] First Event

My first event was technically a demo.

A wise and wondrous man Edmund of Hartford (who is now
a Duke of the Middle)
did not bother the small group of students he found
interested in the SCA at
Rockford College with a moot/populace meeting - no,
for that was by far too
mundane.

He took us about 30 miles down the Rock River to
Byron, Illinois [famous
also for a large statue of Chief Blackhawk - about the
same size as Sam
Houston] to the "summer home" of the Strong Publishing
family out of
Chicago.

Yep, you guessed it, my first event was at a real
castle. There were
fighters in the courtyard, soup in bread bowls from
the kitchen, a high
school madrigal group singing period music on the
hour, and merchants with
wonderful wares. We "crashed" on the great hall floor
over night wrapped in
cloaks - as no one wanted to go home - and I got to
ride a horse in garb (I
still have the picture).
