[Ansteorra] Wanting Awards & Persona

In some ways I find this thread very funny...

Why?

Because the only award I ever "wanted" was a thistle
now it's a moot point...and I don't care about it...

and that was back when I was in Seawinds...
14 plus years ago...

And I've got all the service awards I can get for being where I've been up to Peerage...and I have an Iris and a CB...

didn't "want", "work toward" , "try for", "politic for", etc ...ANY of them...

I got them for being me...and doing what I do...

I didn't NEED any of them and the thing that all of them did is
change me when I got them...

each successive award made me think on a broader scale
and made me feel the BURDEN of the accolade...

made me feel more responsibility in watching what others do
and making sure that they get the appropriate credit...

and so I could put in the right words at the right time...

Except for this year...when I've taken more time for myself...

I've spent over 2500 hours a year for about 16 years (of my 20 years in)
physically, actively, participating in the community of the SCA at local,
regional, kingdom, and known world levels...

that doesn't count travel hours...or hours on the phone/IM/e-mails/discussing SCA business at dinner, etc...
or all the hours I've spent studying social dynamics, management,
or heraldry or researching various things...
so that I can make the SCA better...for others...
and occaisionally myself...

I've gotten much in return...I've learned tons of stuff...
I have some VERY solid friends...
and I know a ton of people worldwide
whom I would have never met otherwise...
and I've made a positive difference in many other people's lives
(I know cause they've told me)
and many people have made a positive difference in my life...

That's why I'm here...and that's what matters to me...

Awards are only responsibility and "icing"...
