[Ansteorra] What was your favorite event?

Thank you for posting such a thought provoking question. I must beg your indulgence because I have two favorite events. My first is past Gothic, for many reasons. It did not rain and give my tent a chance to float (which does sound funny in retrospect). More importantly I had an opportunity to meet and socialize with many people that I had not met before. This simple fact showed me one of the most important reasons for joining organizations like the SCA. We all come from different backgrounds and with different expectations but we are allowed to share a common theme which more importantly turns into a common friendship.
My other favorite event was this years Bryn-gwlad Fall Baronial event. When the archery community of Bryn-gwlad was asked if we would like to participate, I was honored when Lord Jason allowed me to participate with him in setting up and running the event. We had a vision to have a tournament and provide anyone who was interested a chance to participate in archery. As the final number approached 50 participants (25 competing and 25 for fun) I realized we could offer something for people to enjoy. For me it was a rewarding feeling to see so many people having fun and appreciating the work we did. What we initially envisioned as being a couple of hours was kept going most of the day because people showed up. If you build it they will come, guess it makes sense after all.

I went to the event out of what seemed to be obligation. As a member of the
Western Region, I felt it was necessary for me to be at a new group's first
event. When my best friend and I got there, after getting horribly lost(my
fault, I didn't print out directions, I thought I "knew" where it was), we
were warmly greeted. We asked about camping, and once we stated where we
were camping, we were met by a few guys who automatically put up our tent
and un loaded us. I met many interesting new people from the Northern
Region, the tourney was exciting, and EVERYONE I met was positive and very

Well, rain came, tent flooded, everything is wet, and it is not bedtime
yet. You would think that this would tarnish the event for me, but somehow
it didn't. I left that event, the way I left my very first event, "when is
the next one", not the "what do I have to go to next". I personally want to
thank the Shire of Amlac for hosting this, and recharging me. I wish the
"laziness" hadn't set in because your event was worth the 6 hour drive, the
wet stuff, and finding a new place to sleep. It is my favorite event of all
that I have attended.

What is yours?
