The SCA is really big in Europe and many of our troops are active participants.

No harming of any animal, vegetable or mineral occurred in the sending

of this message, however several electrons were terribly inconvenienced!

Someone who shall remain nameless said:

"As far as the terrorist "thing," I once heard that every member
of the SCA
has a file at the FBI because the SCA is listed as a "subversive
organization," for no other reason than that our organization structure is
modeled on a mundane political structure (we've set up kingdoms and
principalities in the United States)."

My lord or lady, permit me to comment, as I have held Secret clearances
three times over a quarter-century: once when I worked on the Shuttle during
the Cold War, once when I worked on contract at Hurlburt Field, Florida
(Google it, I's interesting) in 2004, and one other time.

Membership in The Society for Creative Anachronism is no impediment to
gaining a Secret clearance.

I'll bet you a year's salary that's true. I'm not worried
about losing,
because I've made that bet three times already. And each time I've
made it,
I've won.

I applied three times. Three times I was approved. Each time I listed
"The
Society for Creative Anachronism, Milpitas, CA" on the application forms
where it says "list all organizations in which you have ever held
membership." Nobody even asked for the address. Not once.

You went on to say:

"Some people just get really uncomfortable when they see something
unusual,
and the kneejerk response is to conclude that something unusual
automatically means something wrong."

Yes. Yes they do.
