I believe that someone is already working on this and has been for some months. There may be a yahoo or google group for them by now.

However, if you are looking for research into it I would suggest that you look into the Tuscany region starting in the year of 1150 or so. There are paintings of the Bandeira teams performing in parades that commemorated the ascension of the Virgin into Heaven.

If you read Italian you can look up the Palio and read about the history of it and the importance of the flags in this celebration.

Does anyone have any experience in making flags for a color guard in a band.
It has been suggested that flag waving and "flag throwing" is period and would really add to the Anniversay Coronation and Gulf Wars. 
My health won't allow me to sew. My back is too bad.but if I could get the money could someone out there put up the job of constructing the flags. We will need both Pracitice Flags and show flags.
I don't think buying will work because they weem to go for about 38 dollars a flag.
