It also might create resentment...

If people are not paid members because they don't feel thay have the income to be a paid member... then they will resent being asked and feel that they are being pointed out... and thus feel unwelcome... and may stop attending altogether...

Statistics are always only going to be only relatively accurate anyway...
apply the standard discrepancy rate of plus or minus 5%
to Kaitlyn's 33% (I trust Kaitlyn's figures...she's just one of those people who _makes sure_")  

A passive way to get people to become members... is to actually carry membership forms... when someone says that they're not a member...
hand them a form...

In several groups they've had drawings for paid memberships... drawings at meetings for those who present their membership card... etc...
all passive non-threatening ways of encouraging membership.
