METHODS – as supported by documentation
1= No information or not applicable.
2= Minimum amount of information supplied. Most of piece is a pre-made product via industrial means. No attempt at period style or look to achieve end product.
3= Piece is passably period but majority of techniques are modern.
4= Majority of techniques are period but some modern techniques used.  Though modern methods were used, entrant explains and documents where methodology varies and describes period methods used to achieve results.
5= Period methods used to achieve piece with only reasonable variation from medieval procedure.  (ie. Avoided using mercury to size a hat.)

MATERIALS – as supported by documentation
1= No information or not applicable. Piece uses clearly modern or industrial materials. No attempt is made to make it look period. Little of no effort applied.
2= Though piece serves some period function it uses no period materials. 10' rule applies and is passable at a distance. Entrant does list materials used or explain substitutions.
3= Combination of period and modern materials used.
4= Majority of materials are period.  Though modern materials were used, entrant explains and documents where materials vary and describes period materials used to achieve results.
5= Materials used are the same as those in period with only reasonable variation or substitution. (ie. Extinct or deadly herbs are omitted.)

CRAFTSMANSHIP/COMPLEXITY – as supported by documentation
1= No information or not applicable. No thought given to entry.
2= Piece is simple in form and function and exhibits little or no skill.
3= Piece exhibits some skill and craftsmanship to produce. 
4= Piece exhibits a moderate level of skill and craftsmanship to produce. 
5= Piece exhibits a high level of competence and skill to produce. Piece encompasses multiple production techniques, a variety of skills involved in production, and ambitious scope.

PRESENTATION / OVERALL IMPRESSION – as supported by documentation
1= Little effort made. Piece is laid on table for perusal.
2= Minimum effort made to present item. Bibliography, photocopies or cover sheet available.
3= Some attempt is made to present the item. Information is a brief synopsis and bibliography.
4= Moderate attempt is made to present the item. Information is presented in an accessible style with a brief synopsis and bibliography.
5= Museum or educational presentation is made, possibly within a vignette. Information presented is in-depth, organized and easily accessible.
