I am first generation born in America and my grandmother was from Hungry and always wore her baboskas.  This was common place for her and her generation.  Culturally it was expected and was a part of her beliefs.

I can tell you coming from an OLD school Catholic back ground (3rd
generation american), we wore baboskas... it was a veil/scarf of sorts.

I know all of the pictures of my ancestors I have show all of the women of
married age with their hair covered. I know part of that was my ancestory as
well.
