[Ansteorra] Story from Crown Tourney

Yes, he was proud. Most of the fighters are proud. And we are proud of them. :)

But what about the rest of us? Should we all start heat-training as well? The majority of people at events are not fighters. Some of us are older, some of us are children, and some of us are healthy 24-year-olds who get over-heated, anyway, as I did.

Fighting outside in the worst heat isn't historically necessary, healthy for the majority of participants, or even the most fun. So why do we resist making accomodations for the worst summer weather as we do for the worst weather in every other season? I don't understand.

So far, all I've heard is 'because we've always done it this way', which is countered by the fact that this is only our 2nd mid-summer Crown. :P

I don't want to argue about it. Ansteorra belongs to all of us, from the artisans to the waterbearers to the fighters who desire the outdoors. I'm just asking that the needs and desires of the other participants, be considered along the needs and the desires of the participants who disagree, for next year's summer Crown.

The biggest thing that I got out of Sir Tomas' statement was that he had
PRIDE in the fact that it was fought outside and in talking with other
fighters everyone that I talked with had the same pride and attitude and
would not want to change a thing.

Sir Tomas did have a problem but I would bet that he has fought in
hotter conditions for longer periods of time than he did at crown
tourney, this was not his first rodeo. The difference could be how much
rest and sleep he had, how his diet had been for several days prior,
mental, emotional, vitamins, or any of the other items already mentioned
or it could even have been a little bit from several of them.

His statement and the attitude of the other fighters showed a fighting
force that has a great deal of pride in their own ability and in the
traditions of this kingdom.

I for one am proud of Sir Tomas and of the other fighters that competed
for Crown. I look forward to fighting by their side in the upcoming wars
and battles and have no fear of them leaving my side because of any
weather conditions.

YIS,

Vincenti
