[Ansteorra] I have a question

This was my question that was posted.  I am amazed at the diversity of 
conservations on this list.  It is good to see  so many people reflect on why 
they joined the SCA.  Any thing can be debated strongly or mildly and,  stilled 
be loved at the same time.  We are one big family composing of many relatives 
which ultimately leads to disagreements and debates.  At that very same time we 
still love and respect those we play with.  

Now, since no one has asked me why I had joined I will just tell you.

My first experience was very  horrendous and a nightmare.  It lasted for almost 
a year.  I was first dragged to sca events by two friends.  At my first fighter 
practice I met a cousin of one of my friends and he wanted me in his household. 
 I just went along with the flow and did not know what I was getting in to.  I 
met a  the lady who was an officer there and she was going up to another city to 
do some fabric shopping and asked me to go.  I went with her and cried all the 
way home because she took my money.  Through all of this and much more I stayed. 
 I asked my self the very same question. Why did I join this group?

I must say that my friends are no longer part of the society.  I am not in the 
household.  The officer who took my money is no longer an officer and rarely 
attends events.  So why did I stay? Because this society gave my the ability to 
stand up for my self and to find the confidence in my self to do things I always 
knew I could do.  I made new friends and they are my family now.  I ended up 
being a chatelaine, autocrating events, campmaster, demos, archery champion, and 
explored arts and sciences.  I accomplished so much with in my first year I 
received and AOA.  During my second year I was chatelaine and at the end I 
received my Purple Fret.  I took a break for a while and then went back to learn 
archery.  Why did I stay it is so simple I am home, I have a voice and ground to 
stand on.

You will most likely never know me and will never know who I am.  I will tell 
you I am quiet, I do not approach people and do not engage people in 
conservation. I will be the one standing next to you and the one you by pass to 
get to some-one else.  I will be the one who will surprise you the most and you 
will not expect it.
