There are a couple of options here; probably the best as far as your access goes involves leaving site and going to a third party, such as Burger King (I'd like a side of wifi with my burger, please) or McDonalds. If I recall correctly, Starbucks charges for the privilege of using thier WiFi.

Last year I believe the Herald's tent had wifi for their name submission fast-tracking. You might be able to work out a deal with them. Additionally, some vendors may have wifi available (there are cool wifi routers that attach to a cell phone account with a data plan now). You may also have access to a friend in the IT world who could loan you their 3G/EDGE mobile broadband account and usb device.

Finally, since as a graduate student you are no doubt rolling in extra money, you can buy a mobile broadband device for around $100 (plus $30ish /month for bandwidth) and take the internet with you everywhere.

Unfortunately I don't know much about signal strength/access speed over cellular networks at the GW site.

Please feel free to message me privately if you need more info.
