Don't rule out the possibility of recluse bite because the recluse can sneak into homes but recluse bites are rather unusual in indoor only cats. The recluse bite can have no indications at all or necrotize. I was "lucky" enough to have a personal experience with one at a campout years ago and I still have a scar from it although it certainly healed up better than the doctor told me it would. Just as the article linked says: "Your veterinarian will recommend routine wound care unless your cat is extremely ill", that's what my doctor did. He scrubbed the wound out, peroxide, antibiotic ointment, bandage; clean and re-dress daily.

And I still fight an irrational fear of recluse spiders because I've looked at all those photos on-line which are from the very rare cases of severe necrosis :)
