Gulf Wars preparation for the fighter over 65-
Week one- get a physical from your M.D. to get the OK- make sure you
check up includes a stress test. Start walking at least one mile a day to start
conditioning. Either get some 5 pound weights or two one gallon milk jugs
and fill them with water or sand. Milk jugs work the best for me. Place a
rope loop around the handles so that they are easier to hold. Try to make
as many fighter practices as possible just don’t over do it the first week
or two.
Week one- work the weights with our arms about 10 minutes per day. Place
your feet on either side of a standard door way and touch the opposite side
of the door way with your hands. Left hand onto the right side- right
hand to the left side. This loosens up the midsection and shoulders. Do leg
lifters for 30 seconds each until you can’t do any more. Work on the pale
about 10-15 minutes vigorously about 10 minutes without armor. Finish up
with a one mile walk.
Week two- same routine except run about a 20 yard wind sprint about 3-5
times during the one mile walk.
Week three- same routine except start extending the length of the wind
sprints to about 30-40 yards. Start wearing your armor and shield when you
work the pale.
Week four-Same routine as before but now hold your sword and shield in the
proper hand with the weights. Hold them straight out from your body for
as long as you can. Each following week you should try holding the arms
longer periods of time. Extend your pale time to 30 minutes each day.
Week five- same routine only do your run/walk with your armor on if you
can. If you can’t, pack on the equivalent weight on your body so as to get
use to it on your body.
Continue with program up to Gulf Wars week- This should get you into a
good condition so as to endure the rigors of fighting at Gulf Wars and ( worse
case )not become a EMS casualty or ( best case) be able to make it from
your camp site to the battle field.
