[Ansteorra] Camp fee what to do about it

As a local guild leader, I do get money for supplies, as do the rest of the guilds in my shire.  If your group doesn't do that, then perhaps you should rethink your yearly budget.  Allowing the guilds to be reimbursed for supplies is one of the ways that the group as a whole promotes activities within a group.  We obviously won't pay for an individual's armor, but we will pay for a boombox for dance, or paints and brushes for charter painting so that these groups can continue.  We will also pay for the purchase and repair of loaner armor so new people can learn to fight.  Having supplies available allows the group to be able to function and do things.

While there are expense incurred in service, and the Crown certainly pays for serve as such, what we are talking about here is the paying of a small fee by a large group of individuals, in return for which the group will receive the benefits of a safe (i.e., well-lit at night), clean, friendly community in which to camp.  Moreover, the cost of trash bags, water, candles or tikis and fuel, pickles, oranges, and the like would be more expensive for most that the fee being asked now.  Not only is the argument for individualism less cost-effective, it is also likely to promote a more singular, less-group oriented nature directly in opposition to camping as a group in a kingdom camp.  This is just my opinion, but I hardly see that as a positive thing for the kingdom, and I'm not sure I understand the logic of driving that far to camp in a group and not act like a group.  Moreover, it has already been pointed out in previous posts that the sorts of
things being covered by the fees are things that have for awhile now been provided by service-minded individuals at no charge to the rest of the group.  if you are going to argue about the burdens of service, then let's look at the burden that has been shouldered by these people and maybe think how we can maintain the standards of camping to which we have become accustomed without placing that burden on a few people.

How long have we had the "camp fee"?
Over the years I have "paid" for much of those things out of my own pocket. In fact, I still see people paying for things out of their pocket. The Crown still pays a lot of its own cost and our peers don't get anything to defray there cost for teaching and judging.  Often Peers have to pay money for the privilege of working all day. The local officers and B&B's don't get any monies. People who run guilds or just set up activities and are not official but are fun, like dance master/ess, gaming tents , and other such things don't get money. Most of the time people who autocrat cover all sorts of cost from their own pockets.
Part of the reason we give "service" awards is because these people sacrifice  their time and money to make things happen. If you feel that you can not do that then please step aside or ask your group for donations. My local Barony raises hundreds of dollars so they can offer services.
I would be more than willing to give you things raffle off to paid for supplies for the waterbearers since that can't be "offical" any more.
The fighters will take care of themselves  We can use the showers we have all ready paid for and bring our own trash bags  and buy our ice from the vendors.  In fact, it  might be better if we all took care of ourselves again. Then we could see how much work our water bearer and people other service people are doing. Just make sure everyone knows that the services will not be provided.
When something you are doing becomes that much of a chore it is time to put it down. It is that kind of thing that makes the SCA no longer fun. All our workers are too important. If we have to find others to do the work then so be it. We should not burn people out over water and trash.
If we are charging for Hospitality then it is not hospitality.
