Their Excellencies, Master Phelim Gervese and Mistress
Myfanwy ferch Eifion, Baron and Baroness of Bryn Gwald, invite you to celebrate
Candlemas with us on February 2, 2013, and be part of the championship of the
Arts and Sciences in the finest Barony in the land!
In addition to the selection of our Baronial Arts and
Sciences champion, there will be opportunites for novices to the arts and
sciences, for the younger gentlefolk of the realm, and for those who wish to
simply display their skills and crafts before all.

The Arts and Sciences Champion of Bryn Gwlad Competition

            The
competition for the Arts and Sciences Champion of Bryn Gwlad will be open to
static arts entries, research papers, and non-bardic performance entries.  (Bardic performers are encouraged to enter
the Bardic Championship).  There is no
specific theme for the competition.
Only one entry per individual is permitted.  Documentation is required.  The Ansteorran Judging Forms for static arts,
research papers, and performance will be used to judge entries.  Research papers must be e-mailed to Mistress
Amata by January 18th to allow sufficient time for review.  Static and Performance entries registration
deadline January 31st to reserve space and/or to let Mistress Amata know what
your entry will be.  Contact info at
bottom of post.
The Baronial Champion will be chosen by the Baron and
Baroness of Bryn Gwlad.

Novice Arts and Sciences Competition

As an alternative to the Arts and Sciences Championship
competition, their Halberd Excellencies offer a novice arts and sciences
competition event.  The Candlemas Novice
Arts and Sciences competition is designed for those gentlefolk who wish to
begin exploring the exciting realm of the arts and sciences, but may wish for
something less imposing than a baronial championship.
Persons age 13 and above who have not yet received a
Kingdom-level award for efforts in the Arts and Sciences are eligible to enter
a static arts entry in the Novice competition.  (These artisans may choose to enter either the Championship or Novice
competition, but not both.)  Documentation is required using a Basic Documentation Form.  The documentation form is simple to use and
based on the Kingdom Static Arts Judging form.
            Judging
will be done by a populace vote.  A
number of tokens will be given to populace members wishing to vote.
E-mail Lord Douglas (contact info at bottom of post) to let
him know you’ll be entering so he can reserve a space and so he can send you
the documentation form.
The winner of the Novice competition will be the individual
who received the most tokens and will be announced and presented in Court.

Non-Competition Arts and Sciences Display

            Artisans
who do not wish to compete will have the opportunity to display their works, or
works in progress, during the Arts and Sciences event.  Artisans will be given space to set out their
works, complete or “in work”, to encourage discussion with other artisans or
simply to invite interested gentlefolk to view their art.  E-mail Mistress Amata (contact info at bottom
of post) to let her know you intend to display so she can reserve a space for
you.

Children’s Arts and Sciences Challenge

The Children’s A&S Challenge is to encourage children 6
to 12 years old, who have opportunity and access to amenable parents, to create
A&S projects to bring to Candlemas.  For any child (6-12) who would like to participate, or who didn’t get a
chance to make something for the Challenge, there will be a small class on
Viking treasure necklaces at the event.  Participants in the class will be given the opportunity to make and enter
a necklace in the Challenge.  In lieu of
written documentation, the judge will sit down with each child and talk to them
about their project.
Each child who enters will be given a pyrographed wooden
medallion to either hang on their necklace or be tied on a ribbon for their
participation.   If you know your child
will be participating or have questions, please contact Lady Elen (contact info
at bottom of post).
