I am in no way as experienced as most here, but my impression is that one
of the most important benefits of a healthy SCA, Inc. and subsidiaries is
the continued insurance coverage under which our hard-to-explain and
sometimes mildly dangerous events are held. Without the SCA, Inc. and its
insurance, I have no doubt that an even like Gulf Wars would either be
impossible or only possible with a significantly higher entry fee (which
would cover the cost of insurance for the event, perhaps, but not the
additional hassle of securing insurance separately for each event). In any
case, who would want to step up and be personally responsible for liability
for an event with hundreds or thousands of attendees? Absent an SCA, Inc.,
I would still be surprised if an event like Pennsic didn't end up with some
sort of corporate entity organizing it.

Newsletters are fine, but I hardly think they're the main reason for
tithing the Board. And I don't think kowtowing to the Board has anything
to do with it, either.
