[Ansteorra] First SCA clothes (was: maybe an answer to recruitment problems)

When a friend introduced me to the SCA he knew that I had been doing
theater and costuming for a while. He told me to be sure I brought some of
my best stuff and to make a splash. So I packed up my tent and wardrobe and
headed out. I showed up around 4:30 on a Saturday evening, not knowing the
event would be over in the morning, asked around where checkin was for new
people and was greeted by a nice fellow in the main hall. I told him that I
was new and could not find my friend who had recommended me so I was a
little lost. He took my camp fee, set me up for the feast and told me to
come back and he would find some loaner feast gear for me.
I ran back to my tent and hurriedly laced into my most recent Tudor
creation and rushed back to the hall. The fellow did not recognize me! I
told him I was back for the loaner gear for the feast?? He looked me up and
down and said, "Newbie? Yeah, right! Dressed like that?!" I thought there
was something wrong with it, ended up it was something too right. He
thought I was fibbing to get a newbie rate. Ended up some ladies who had
been to the Renaissance Fair and saw me walking around recognized my garb
and we became fast friends.

Those were the days....
