Your Excellency,

I am in total agreement. I have no ambitions, but just enjoy seeing
different groups and 'their way of doing things'. I love the pageantry
of Bjornborg (as well as their wonderful hospitality) and the table
decorations of Steppes' Twelfth Night for examples (no other group
/I've/ seen does this to their level).

I can see that a fighter who only fights with the same people will not
progress as well. But would the variety he gets by going, say across
Kingdom lines to Calontir--because they are closer, not also give him
new experiences? But my point was that a person striving for
advancement is hindered by not being able to travel /especially/ because
he is not seen or does not have the connections he needs. How will they
know he is a great fighter or Laurel or Pelican material? Only by word
of mouth of the Peers who see him locally which doesn't seem to be
enough. I have recently heard the story of a woman who could not travel
because of severe health issues, but did much of the pre-cook and
organization for the Lady of the Rose Breakfast at Gulf War (a Kingdom
level endeavor). She was very active locally even with her health
issues and deserved recognition. Unfortunately recommendations from
Laurels in the area where she played were not sufficient and she passed
away before receiving that recognition.

Travel is great and should be encouraged. But for those who can not,
because of finances, family obligations, work, health, etc. advancement
is rather limited.
