For
all of our young Ansteorran warriors who
will stand in our mighty battle line at Gulf Wars, please make sure that you
equip them properly as the rules in Gleann Abhann are slightly different than
here in our Kingdom. While we begin
training and combat at age 6, they start at 7 but otherwise the age brackets
are exactly the same. If you do have a 6
year old longing to join us, please bring their equipment as we can always
train and work with them even though they will have to wait until next year to
join the melees and tournaments.
Also,
remember that worldwide the new rules are going into effect which use rattan
instead of PVC cores for the boffer swords and weapons! Also notice that 2 handed weapons begin at
age 10, and are PVC, NOT rattan! Again,
taking a moment to know Gleann Abhann’s rules can prevent disappoint for an
eager Ansteorran son or daughter so we want to make sure that all of our
parents and marshals understand what is needed.
This
is a very important change and for the exact requirements for weapons at Gulf Wars
please read over the rules provided at the GW website at
http://www.kingdomofgleannabhann.org/library/func-startdown/15/
The
weapon standards begin at the bottom of page 8, and having already built
several of the rattan core swords we’ve noticed that there is no appreciable
difference in the weight or “boffer” feel of the swords. The big challenge is we can’t run over to
Lowes or Home Depot and buy PVC any more!
I know that Alexandra, the Steppes Youth Combat Marshal now has a source
there for rattan, and also Eric of Munitions Grade Arms is well stocked after I
met with him at Pennsic and let him know of the upcoming changes. He is scheduled to be at GW, so “worse-case”
you can review the rules, bring everything EXCEPT the rattan, then buy it at
the war and easily build it in camp before the action starts on Monday.
Dane
the Red and I will be at all of the Youth Combat activities with m’lord Mika’il
(Dex!), the Gleann Abhann YC Marshal who’s overseeing the action this
year. You can find us for help building
swords, etc. either there, or in the Loch Ruadh camp right across from the
Early Period Life area.
We
look forward to seeing you all in a week!,
At
your service,
Germanicus,
Central Region Youth Combat Marshal
