Gilli,

This is a great point but first we have to get the archery champions us
there behind the thrones with the other champions. Seldom I have seen the
Royals of the local landed nobility have their Archery Champions up there.

As far as who fills in when the Royal Huntsman cant be there or needs a
break? Well I think that is up to the Royal Huntsman and Their Majesties.

I have not observed a strong pattern for the replacements of the Kings and
Queens Champions standing up their holding the swords excepts that the one
holding the Rapier is generally a Don (although not necessarily the senior
Don present no one that has won Queens Champion). There seems to be much
less structure as to who seems to stand-in for the Kings Champion.

OK here is just my opinion and the way I envision it. Keep in mind that I
will doubtless never be King so it will never be my say-so as to how it
actually works.

I deeply feel that it is part of the Royal Huntsman's job to arrange for the
Archery Community to be represented behind the thrones. For the events that
he can not travel to be with the Crown he should arrange in advance for
someone else to take care of it. Those arrangements can be made through the
Kingdom Archery Marshal, the Regional Archery Marshals, the Local Archery
Marshals, or other archers he knows who will be present. Keep in mind that
not all branches have archery marshals or even archers present.

I don't "necessarily" think that there should be a "precedence" issue when
selecting someone to stand up there. If there are Kings Archers present
then they are obvious choices but I also think that it is a good way to give
some archer (any archer) or marshal a little recognition and a pat on the
back for a job well done.

If an archer does well on the field or at the range that day I think it is
entirely appropriate that the Royal Huntsman approach him, thank him for a
job well done, and ask him if he would be available to further serve his
King and Queen by standing in as the representative for their archery
champion in court.

As usually my 2-cents of this matter have turned more into 25 cents but once
again I deeply feel that these arrangements should be part of the Royal
Huntsman duties. Unfortunately the duties of the Royal Champions are not
written down anywhere and aren't a part of law, they are simply a part of
tradition. WE the archery community have got to work hard to build this
tradition.

Always in Service,

Lord Eadric Anstapa
Coastal Regional Archery Marshal, Ansteorra
