[Ansteorra-archery] Auction at AoB

I certainly have no objection to your running an auction. But since
you are dealing with other people's money, you need to do certain
things. Such as:

1. In advance Set out the criteria for who will receive the money and why.

2. Make sure that it is well known by the person's donating items and
by the bidders that the money is NOT going to benefit the SCA, but to
benefit individuals instead. If money is left over from the
individuals, then that is a different matter. This is very
important. If you conduct an auction at an SCA event, most people
will assume that it is for the SCA if they are not otherwise clearly
told. If they give or bid under the impression that it is SCA money
when in fact it is going to individuals, you could be accused of
fraud.

3. Make sure that no warranted reeve is handling the money. Once a
reeve (or the autocrat or the seneschal or the person running the
gate) touches it, then it aquires the aura of SCA money and can lead
to conflicts and accusations later. Avoid this by sticking to this
rule religiously.

Mostly, you can avoid problems by being as open as possible. Answer
all questions about the money, keep good records, and offer to let an
outsider audit the books. I know this sounds like overkill, but you
don't want to get in the position of being accused of wrong doing.
