Great minds. I like both -- though "fledgling" would be a great designation
for younger archers, like "page".

Probably the most appropriate term would be 'yeoman'. The word is, according
to my Websters, derived from the Old English for young man and has been used
to describe manservants in noble households, assistants or subordinates to
such a position as sherriff, a small landholder, a british volunteer cavalry
force used as a home guard beginning in the mid 18th century. Yeoman service
is also considered to be exceptionally good, useful or loyal service or
assistance.

We use Yeoman as a ranking, but it is proabably the most fitting term for
these apprentice bowmen that I can find. Fledgling isn't so far off either,
as it is used in Britain as another spelling for fletching.

In the beginning there were Knights. After a period of time, they took
Squires. Then there were Dons. After a period of time, they took Cadets.
Then in due time, there were Arcus-Majorisus. And tonight became the time
for them to start taking Students. HL Talon of Blackoak, Ld. Robert of
Yorkshire and Ld. Edward MacTavish, in the presents of the assemble populace
at feast during Middleford's Ice Ax Tourney, became the Students of HL
Gilbert Ost Westley.

Each of the new Students were given a red bracer with a black Ansteorran
Star, which also had a black and green knot work around the sides and lower
portion of the bracer.
