Greetings Friends,
Many thanks to Arcus Gilli and HL Darcy for all their hard work,
generosity, and hospitality in hosting Archer's Revel. It was all about good food, good
company, and good archery. Even the fickle Ansteorran weather did it's part by
bringing a breeze to push the dark clouds far from our happy gathering.
Our friends from down south in Bryn Gwlad put on a really fun tournament,
in which each archer had to shoot scores with an open bow, a period self bow,
and a crossbow. Now, as a diehard longbowman, I consider a crossbow to be an
infernal mechanism with the devil's own taint upon 'em, but I must meekly
confess they are a load of fun to shoot (just might have to make me one of them
<grin>). Hats off to Ricardo the Wanderer for putting together such a fun and
challenging tourney.
If that weren't enough excitement, our own Southern Region Archery Marshal
displayed her prowess with my 48 lb. longbow, by promptly "Robin Hooding" one
of my brand new arrows (and oh by the way, she'd just put that one in the
gold, before she split it with another one). Kind of hard to get aggravated at
that, and kind of hard not to be tickled pink that folks were having fun shooting
my twelve dollar "AOB floor demo model" longbow (yup, it's the one I was
whittling on in the class). Judging by the interest in that humble stick and
string, there's going to be a few more of them made first part of next year.
Well, I'll sleep good tonight, with a belly stretched full by Gilli's world
famous meatloaf and "Death by Chocolate". But, I gotta tell y'all, as I was
driving off site this afternoon, Arcus Gilli and Ld Edward McTavish were down
there clanking around on the combat range, letting the arrows fly quick and
thick. You could see their silly grins gleaming through the grilles of their
helms. Archers, God love us, we're all just a wee bit nuts;-)

Cheers All,
Robert of Yorkshire
