[Ansteorra-archery] speaking of crossobow repairs...

If I remember right, www.Alcheminc.com shows how to help with that...you drill out a hole in the nut and insert a steel rod which you cut to fit the tickler. I think its one of their links in the lower part of their crossbow section. if you do it correctly, that should work.

Titanium is going to expensive and steel will be very heavy and slow to turn. You might want to try the plastic or aluminum again but add a strip of steel/brass were the nut and trigger meet. It doesn't have to be very thick and you can epoxy it in place. Should save on the wear and tear. This should give you a rough idea of what I mean. Master Iolo has been doing his this way with wooden nut and it seems to work. The material should be the same as the trigger.IaenLen Billett wrote:

I have a crossbow that is in need of repairs but i don't know who could fix it. If you go onto the site "by the sword" there is a xbow at the $225 price, that is my bow. The problem is the roller nut keeps wearing out do to a cheaply made crossbow. Basically it has the cut out 90 degree angle on the bottom that allows the trigger to hold the roller, when you fire, it basically wears out the roller until it no longer has enough left on it to hold the weight of the string. It orginally came with a plastic roller which wore out, i then had an aluminum roller made which also wore out so can anyone make a titanium or hardened steel roller lol.. Just wondering if anyone knows someone who is good with crossbows.. I would like to shoot it again one day.

What would be the best material to use and does anyone have a good source? Also, does anyone know of a good how-to article or will someone be at Round Table who might be able to show me? What Bart uses in the article is the Handy Hundred polyester braid. See http://www.rwrope.com/knot_tyers/twine_cord.htmThat same page has waxed whipping twine which is another good thing to use. Also sometimes called waxed sail twine or waxed marine twine. It's a poly twine. Any suitably heavy poly twine should work well. Some prefer waxed twine as it has a tendency to "lock" in better.JP uses waxed telco lacing twine which is another strong waxed poly twine.Or go to your local Tandy Leather factory store and get some appropriately heavy waxed stitching/twine/cord made from poly.Remember nylon stretches. Poly usually has near zero stretch.-EA------------------------------Message: 3Date: Thu, 7 Aug 2008 02:30:46 -0500From: Chuck Kaun <jack_a_lope31 at hotmail.com>Subject: Re: [Ansteorra-archery] Crossbow BindingTo: Archery within the Kingdom of Ansteorra <ansteorra-archery at lists.ansteorra.org>Message-ID: <BLU132-W283E5DE57E811B9478313FB9750 at phx.gbl>Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"Jute or hemp twine works too. I've already had it tightened once with extra bindings and it's loosed up again to the point of being unusable. Thanks,DonnchadhChuck Kaun wrote:> Jute or hemp twine works too. I've heard he knows a thing or two about crossbows...And I know he teaches others how to make them, so he can probably answer your questions. His shop's web page is: http://www.crossbows.net/Charles,BG------------------------------Message: 6Date: Thu, 7 Aug 2008 11:02:57 -0500From: "Lawrence" <huntsmanlance at cox.net>Subject: Re: [Ansteorra-archery] Crossbow BindingTo: "'Archery within the Kingdom of Ansteorra'" <ansteorra-archery at lists.ansteorra.org>Message-ID: <00c401c8f8a7$0f42ebd0$6601a8c0 at SP>Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"Here is a good site with a how to.....http://hightowercrossbows.com/howTo.htmHope it helps.Lance------------------------------Message: 7Date: Thu, 7 Aug 2008 11:04:45 -0500From: "Lawrence" <huntsmanlance at cox.net>Subject: Re: [Ansteorra-archery] Crossbow BindingTo: "'Archery within the Kingdom of Ansteorra'" <ansteorra-archery at lists.ansteorra.org>Message-ID: <00c501c8f8a7$4fcb0070$6601a8c0 at SP>Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"Oooops!
