greetings

at least in the northern region , the number of archers competing is usualy
higher than the number of rapier and heavy combatants combined at most
events.

don't get me wrong , i have planned and shot many " fun " shoots they are
great for novices , children, and a break from serious competition .( you
can't have a title shoot at every event a group has, at least not within the
same paramiters ) but you could do a group champion, a x-bow champion, and a
novice champion , but most groups dont have the time, the prizes, or the
inclination to have more than one archery champion , even if they have a
heavy champion , a war heavy champion, and bubba big pants shield wall
champion .but i digress ; )

but i still feel that if your going to have a champion shoot, or a title
shoot, it should test your skill and your luck . when marshals create shoots
that make me sweat , just looking at them , before i ever get to shoot ,
when they create shoots that have me saying prayers to the archery gods
after each and every round , begging them to not let me look too stupid and
clumsy in front of my peers , those are the shoots , that are " fun " to me
.
if i can win without trying , i am cheating my self , and the lower skilled
archer that would have found the shoot a challenge .
if i don't want to stretch my limits, or be pressured, or compete with other
archers why would i leave my back yard range ?

be safe, be happy , have fun
arthur

( its ok to ignore me, i know im grouchy right now, havent gotten to do
anything except chainsaw trees since the whole ice storm thing happened ,
and still chopping wood to clear range . )

> I have no clue about the exact number of archers in Ansteorra but I think
we would be surprised. During the last Fall Baronial at Bryn Gwlad we had 25
competing and another 25 people shooting for fun. That was for an event we
added late to the schedule. Just my humble opinion but I think if we had
more archery there would be more people participating. Sadly the Bryn Gwlad
event did not have a long enough area for a royal round but it was fun. I
like the idea of a competition being a fun type round to shoot, but I do not
know why we could not try to get the events extended to include a royal
round for anyone interested in shooting one. Presuming the site has the
distance required.
