[Ansteorra-archery] Royal huntsman question

In general it is expected by the archery community that the Royal
Huntsman will attend the crown in the same way the the Kings Champion
and Queens Champion attend then crown. This is not just duty to the
crown but service to this archery community. You become the visible
and frequent presence of the archery community to the crown throughout
the reign. The crown may ask you for advice regarding the archery
community Your actions reflect upon the entire community.

It is understood that things happen and sometimes the Royal Huntsman
will need to miss an event. In that case they are expected to arrange
for other members of the archery community, Arc d'Or, Kings Archers, or
former Royal Huntsman to stand on their behalf and make sure that the
crown is attended. I think in general the archery community wants to
see their representative to the crown attend more royal presence events
than they miss.

It is hoped that the Royal Huntsman will attend Gulf War, attend the
crown, help win the archery war points for Ansteorra, help out at the
archery range or with CA duties. But sometimes the Huntsman can not
take the week off and that is understood and accepted as long as the
Huntsman has done a good job of attending the crown through the rest of
the reign.

Generally as the Royal Huntsman tournament starts the Crown will address
the competitors and tell them what they expect or perhaps require of
their Huntsman. If people absolutely have no chance of being able
fulfill those duties but thinks that they have a real chance of winning
it is expected that they consider that. Some crowns say things like
"attend as many events with us as you can", other say "attend at least
half of the events that we attend." Some specifically request that you
attend Gulf War. Seldom are the champions asked to attend Pennsic but
many try to.

Also in general before the semi-final round the tournament will pause,
people will be reminded that the Royal Huntsman has duties, and if you
can not fulfill those duties you should withdraw at that time. However,
nobody who is prepared to spend the the effort to fully serve and do
the job likes to be eliminated from a tournament like this by someone
who knows from the beginning that they have no intent to serve are are
planning withdraw at the semi-finals. If you are planning to withdraw
at the semi-finals but face an opponent in an earlier round who you
think would make a fine huntsman, who is prepared to serve, you might
consider yielding to that person so that they can progress and perhaps
become royal huntsman.

As always is a choice you make based on your own sense of honor and fair
play.

-EA
