What would be more damaging (and may be what Caladin has in his evil
little mind) would be to mass archers at one point on the field and
have them pour a steady rain of arrows into an enemy unit until it
disappears. Then maybe repeat with another unit if there's time.
Guys you've got a weapon with massive range here. Putting all the archers in one spot is not necessary. Spread your archers out over the entire line and then have them all aim at one spot on the enemy line. Combine this with archers who are at that spot and shooting straight in. What you want is converging axis of fire and converging trajectories all focused on a single unit or point of interest. Furthermore a volley should not be delivered all at once but in unpredictable waves. Or even as a rolling barage. Keep in mind that high trajectory archery by itself is easy to defeat and for that reason it HAS to be coordinated with the infantry. If the enemy has to cover up from high trajectory arrows coming in from the front and both sides, direct fire arrows coming in from the front and both sides, spears and swordsmen he will inevitably fall. The problem lies with tryingto coordinate all this. Okay back to retirementRobn
