[Ansteorra-rapier] Proposed revision to rapier rules

Won't you still have to throw that one or two extra blades in the bag for instruction reasons, even if it is just to show new marshal's what an epee is so they don't allow them on the field?

Again, then we are saying that we will need to require marshals to carry around an extra blade for instruction.  One that only gets used on very rare occasions.  As I said before, once in the last 7 years.  For me, I do not see the point in continuing to have something that folks are going to be required to know if they are simply not being used.  Why require training for something that is not happening?  How many people have had an occasion to need to use or inspect an epee or a foil in the last 5 years?  Not counting the Bryn Gwlad throwback event, my guess would be less than 10 total in the entire kingdom.

6 years ago, the reasoning for not dropping foils and epees was that we should let them die their natural death.  6 years later, they have done so.  This rule change would simply acknowledge what has already happened.   YMMV ~shrug~

(and yes, I still have a case of epees in the garage, just do not have a reason to use them)

From your email below, Avery, you are saying that the issue is that we marshals are not being trained to inspect all the types of blades that can be used in tournaments and in practices.  We are only being trained to use the "popular" ones, the heavy rapiers.  Shouldn't the solution be to better train and familiarize the marshals with the inspection and use of epees/foils (which /do/ get used at practices rather often, in my experience), rather than changing the rules in a way that accommodate our inadequacies?
