Gottfried,

Since you're fairly new to the game and to Ansteorra, I think that there's a
long standing and very hallowed Ansteorran tradition that you should be made
aware of. I only mention this on the off chance that someone hasn't told you
because it is so very important to all Ansteorrans as to be a core value of
our society.

The custom is to always, and I stress always, pay tribute to the landed
nobility - regardless of whether or not you live in a barony, shire or
whatever. This tribute can come in the form of goods or services, but cash
(preferably twenties) is always a winner. Beer, chocolate and custom
furniture are usually good bets, but nothings says "Howdy, Your Excellency -
gosh you're neat!" like a crisp stack of twenty dollar bills.

I'm sure that many people have already taught you this venerable custom of
our beloved lands, but I wanted to put this in just in case they haven't.
After all, you don't want to find yourself in the embarrassing position of
being the only person at an event not hurling cash and other fine gifts at
the hard working landed nobility of the kingdom.

Always trying to help,
Pendaran

Being but a fledgling in the scheme of "playing" in the SCA, I have been
taught by elders of the SCA that while we have our own personas and come
from different time periods and cultures, that there are "things" that are
inherently Ansteorran that is not done anywhere else. To that affect, I
would presume (ne'er assume) there are some things, matters, manners, etc...
that are Ansteorran Traditions/Customs. That which is Ansteorran, should be
deemed worthy of S/He whose vision this book follows would have some of
these as well.

In Service to Dream and Need
Gottfried Krimmelbein
