Dear fellow bards I have a problem/

After reading "The Tain" which is based on a 12th century manuscript I
have discovered some differences in the story from the renditions I have
found in the most common books on Irish stories. In "The Tain" the
following happens;

	Eogan crossed the green with his men. Fergus's son came and stood at
Noisiu's side. Eogan welcomed Noisiu with a hard thrust of a great spear
that broke his back.
Then the slaughter broke out all over the green.

In the other book Noisiu and his brothers are in the Red Branch house and
they fight from there.

These two versions show something very different. In the first one
Conchobor the king has not broken guest rights because Eogan is not his
man but someone trying to get on Conchobor good side and Noisiu and his
host have not been welcomed into the house. In the second story the
killing takes place after they are welcomed.

Does anyone know when the second version comes into being?

Willow
