Ly. Anna bat Chaim,

I do appoligize for sending such a message in the heat of anger. I had just gotten back from our 2 day demo at the International Festivel in Lawton. I sent this email to the ansteorra-announce list on Friday, September 24, 2004 4:05 PM, comprised of HL Elanor O'Ruarc previous emails which I cut and pasted so the information would be as accurate as possible.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greetings,

I thought all his friends should know!

Wormy is in the VA Hospital in Dallas.
He went in with swelling in his legs and hands, red splotches on his lower legs, waxy, pale skin, and general malaise, which he has had for several days.
He was found to have anemia, very low sodium levels, and some blood in his urine.
They are keeping him to run more tests and see why these symptoms persist.
Wormy has only one kidney, and has had trouble with it before. It is possible that he may either be having kidney or liver problems now. His kidney may even be shutting down, and if so, he may have to be on dialysis.
Please send your thoughts and prayers to Wormy at this time, he needs alot of support to help him get better and come back home. His Morgan misses him, as do we all.

Hoping and praying,
Elanor/Beth

Wormy was born prematurely, and his aortic valve was malformed. Instead of having 3 parts to it, it only has 2, and was therefore weak to begin with. He did not know this however, until today when the doctor told him. They have done multiple EKG's and at least one Ultrasound Doppler study, which looks at blood flow.
It seems the infection in his blood has damaged the already weakened heart valve. He has been moved to ICU and will have heart surgery to repair the valve. It will most likely be done in the next 24 hours.
I went to see him and other than being scared as hell, he's doing really well. The doctors say that since he is young and healthy (other than that valve thing) he has a excellent chance of sucess and recovery.

  To all,

I spoke with Wormy this evening and I have pretty much all the information now. It's very serious.
The bacteria Wormy has in his blood is Streptococcus bovine. How he got that no one seems to be able to figure out, but it has wreaked some serious damage. They did pull the cracked tooth that may have been the culprit, but it took an oral surgeon to get it all out.
Wormy will be under going surgery tomorrow morning. The surgeon said that they don't ususally do surgery on Friday, but in his case they will. Not only are they going to replace the damaged heart valve, but the bacteria has deteriorated part of the aorta, and they will be performing an aortic graft as well. Since they have to order a synthetic graft, they would have to have known about the aortic deterioration for a few days now.

I have been able to get ahold of his family and let them know, but, they live in Wisconsin and Illinois respectively, and will probably not be able to come here. Anyone who can come see him after the surgery should. He will need all the support he can get, then and during his recovery. I will be glad to give information to anyone who needs it.........that is if I have left anything out.

Send all your thoughts, prayers, wishes, healing energy, or whatever you think will work........we'll take all of it we can get.

  Hoping and praying,
  Elanor

The sun shall set at 6:41 pm local time. At this time, I ask that all who wish to send their prayers/healing energy to our dear friend Wormy; please find all the bells you have on hand and shake them for one full minute. They are his favorite part of his garb/persona and I'm sure he will hear us. The sun shall rise again at 6:42 am tomorrow morning and I plan on honoring him again at this time.

  This is not good news.

William Wyrm (aka Ron Wurm) has taken a turn for the worse. He is on
full life-support at this time, and is given very little chance of
survival. He is fighting for his life. Will everyone please, in honor
of those time he has made you laugh, or shake your fist at him, or just
smile and shake your head, pray for this man. He needs all of us now.

First: NO ONE can go to the hospital. Wormy's parents have requested
that we all stay entirely away. Please, obey their request.

Second: DO NOT call family members for information. This is a very
serious situation, and they need their phones and attention free.
Calling the hospital will also not get you much beyond frustrated,
frantic nursing staff snapping at you. A system of getting information
out to everyone is in place, and will be used to keep everyone as up to
  date as possible.

I am sorry to be the bearer of such tidings, but all is not lost. This
is one tough Court Jester, and with our help he will live to make us
  laugh yet again.

  Gerita

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Again, Please accept my apology for taking out my frustration on this list. I know we are all concerned.
It's the waiting, not knowing that is the hardest part of all.
Has anyone had any updates on his condition today?

  Your Excellency,

On behalf of the bardic community, I apologize for not getting this on the main Ansteorran list earlier. It appears to have been a miscommunication - everyone thought someone else had already posted it, or was taking care of it. I know that Wormy appreciates the concern and prayers of his friends everywhere.

Speaking only for myself, however, I would like to request, with all due respect, that you not post to this list in anger regarding the delay in getting the word out about Wormy. While I certainly understand your feelings, I would like to point out that HL Elanor O'Ruarc and her Lord Matthias are the main sources of information for all of us regarding Wormy right now, and as they truly consider him one of the family, this has been very hard on them. I really would not want them to see a posting saying that they weren't getting the word out enough, considering everything they're going through.

Incidentally, when Wormy went into the hospital, he was not considered to be in nearly so serious a condition, and was even starting to improve. I may be wrong, but I don't think even his immediate family knew when he first entered the hospital.

Please know that we will try to keep the rest of the kingdom informed of developments, but please also know that we don't always know the latest ourselves.

  Respectfully,
  Ly. Anna bat Chaim

I for one would like to make it known that the reporting of this situation or should I say the "Lack of Reporting" has me, as well as others in the Barony of Eldern Hills more than a little upset.
Wormy was a member of this barony for several years. He is near and dear to us all.
Wormy is known and loved throught out the kingdom. This kind of news should have been posted to the Ansteorra-Announce at ansteorra.org way before this, Considering the fact that he went into the hospital on 9-16. News finally showed up on the Ansteorra-Announce list on 9-26 at 6:14 pm.

      Hello everyone,

I'm sending out an update concerning Wormy. After improving throughout the day on Saturday, Worm decided to throw us a curve last night. During the night most of his systems have bottomed out. Right now most of his bodily systems are on mechanical support. His heart is being augmented by a balloon pump. His condition has been downgraded. The doctors are saying his chances of survival have slipped badly, down to about a 1 in 10. The details would be confusing, but anyone who wants to know should call or e-mail directly, and I'll answer as best as I can. We continue to have hope but this shift is not encouraging. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

      Matthias

Make a joyful noise unto your Kingdom!
