[Bards] What can we do to make things better

On the subject of singing, not all "singers" have to have great singing voices. For example, I love listening to Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady sing, even though he sometimes "suggests" a tune rather than singing it. I heard a woman perform a wonderful song in this style at the first bardic competition I ever attended. It was beautiful, though she really didn't sing it like a singer would, but the pitch and phrasing of her voice were really lovely and I enjoyed her performance very much. She found some kind of happy medium between singing, and speaking, and it was most dramatic! She was singing an original song about Vikings - I wish I could remember the piece or the person, but alas, I can't. I thought she was the best at the competition, though she didn't win, which made me wonder if I was all at sea about what was expected at bardic competitions.

The label "bard" with all of it's different cultural meanings and counterparts has been discussed numerous times in the past. I also don't agree with it, but I submit to it's SCA usage as "a practioner of the vocal arts."

I would think voiced support and offered drink in a public setting. When people show an interest in you, it's very empowering.
