[Bg-dance] Memo: darkening the hall

Actually, I'm not sure any announcement happened last year that bid people to extinguish any lights.

And at one point we bantered around the idea of having a herald essentially call order, announce essentially a nicely written history of candlemas/Imbold about it is time to douse all lights of the winter's passing and once again celebrate the new lighting of the hall.  The dancers of Bryn Gwlad will bring in the light so all can rejoice and welcome the sun's gaining strength.

I have not written it up yet or confirmed the pageantry with their Excellencies.  Keep reminding me to follow up on this so that we have it in place and ready to implement.

I believe that's what they did last year, wasn't it? Have a herald announce it?  Last Candlemas was my first event, and I was very excited, and pretty overwhelmed, but I think that's what I remember.

The problem I was thinking of is people who light the candles on their
tables before the candle dance and the ceremonial lighting of all the
candles.  Is it enough if we have someone (*cough*) herald before the
dance to bid people extinguish all the flames?  (N.B. must avoid the
phrase "kindle fire".)  Is there a handout at the gate and can we get
info into it?  Maybe it would help to have little aluminium foil caps
over each candle that we set out, or would people just take them off
and light them anyway?  Basically, I'd like to brainstorm.
