Greetings Bordermarch,
This weekend we attended the Stargate and Lock Soilleir Baronial event
in Needville.
Joining us were Count Sir Simonn, Lord Zane, Lord Diego, Lord Adolf,
Lord Brand Eric, Lady Colecte, HE Amber Lea Fairchild and Lord Malcolm
MacLean.
The fights throughout the day were action packed and never slowed for a
moment.
Lord Brand Eric received a token of appreciation from Their Royal
Highnesses for his valor and honor on the list fields. This event was
his first tournament and he did very well indeed.
Count Sir Simonn and Lord Adolf did very well during the list, but Lord
Malcolm's fight was by far the most exciting fight of the day.
He fought Florentine style against an opponent wielding a spear and
bested him by charging him with both swords swinging.
HE Elisabeth became so excited by all the fighting that she flew out of
her throne and tried to push onto the list fields to fight, even though
I had no armor. All of our other fighters were encouraging me to fight
at this event, but I felt I was not totally prepared. I can take the
look of disappointment from our fighters, but when HE Elisabeth looks at
me with those big doe eyes that she can fill with sadness at will, I
become putty and will do anything she ask of me.
Thank God I did not bring my armor with me for as sure as Jimmy cracks
corn I would have been on the list fields adding more bruises to my
already black and blue body.
The lovely Lady Colecte graced us with her presence, even though she is
pregnant and looks like she will explode at any moment. Unfortunately,
Lord Adolf is the father and we all pray that the the child is born with
her mother's uncompromising beauty and etiquette.
HE Amber Lea was joined by Lord Draco under the Bordermarch pavilion and
blessed with us songs that transported one to other times and places.
It's always a pleasure when someone is willing to take time from their
day to share songs and tales with us.
Lord Diego was once again put to work as Chirurgeon during the event.
There were no major injuries so he had some time to visit with us during
the event. It seems he digested some bad cheese or something and had to
sprint to the lou.
He recovered by the time we left and joined us as we dinned at a
restaurant on the way home.
Lord Malcolm was so hungry after the event that all he could talk about
was eating a steak as big as his head. When we arrived at the restaurant
he immediately demanded bread and butter so he wouldn't pass out before
his steak was placed in front of him. When all the food was served and I
was half through with my burger, Lord Malcolm was smacking his lips and
wiping the last dribbles of steak juice from his face. Everyone stared
at him and placed a protective arm over their remaining meals for fear
he wasn't quit full yet.
As we said our goodbyes to each other it dawned on me that another day
was well spent with friends and family, sharing laughter and good times
with each other and wishing the day didn't have to end.
HE Elisabeth was concerned that I might not be up to the drive home so
she offered to drive in my stead. I convinced her I was ok to drive and
finally got her settled down in her seat in the truck. She immediately
wrapped up in her winter coat, kicked the seat back all the way and fell
dead asleep. She would sporadically thrash and kick out at some
invisible aggravation, probably me, and then drift back to a peaceful
slumber. After the two hour drive home I shook her awake and she
staggered out of the truck. She was still half asleep when she growled
at the dogs as they tried to greet her on the porch. Somehow she managed
to make it up the stairs to the loft and was dead asleep by the time I
made my way to the bed.
The next morning, as I heated water for coffee, my eyes fell upon her
beauty as she descended from the loft wearing pajama bottoms covered
with dried paint and an old tattered sweatshirt. Her hair was pinned in
some ritualistic bun like thing that kind of scared and excited me all
at the same time. I was soon informed that the new day would be filled
with painting the trim in the new house. When I mentioned the
possibility that I might have to run to town for much needed food items
she threw her hands on her hips and stared me down until I begged for
forgiveness. I was ashamed of myself for even thinking of taking a break
from the fun filled day of painting she had planned for me.
She let me talk a little about my hopes and dreams, but mostly she
steered our conversations toward the upcoming Bordermarch Baronial this
weekend.
I will be arriving Thursday morning for set-up and she will arrive that
evening. There will be plenty for everyone to do so don't feel your
going to be left out.
There will be an officers\pre-event meeting at Tessa and Simonn's
Tuesday the 22nd, around 7pm. We will tie up any loose ends for the
event and maybe have some cookies to eat while we're there.
HE Santiago
