[Coastal] question for the Houston area ...

Cost was a driver. As a state park, everyone who spent the night was
paid for for *each* night, and $3 per head for all day-trippers, as well
(and additional costs to rent the hall). In addition, although nice,
the showers were across the creek. And *no* archery was allowed,
although equestrian *was* allowed on the far side of the river. And
they used to provide porta-privies, but we had to start providing
additional ones, too. And we had a nice working relationship with the
ranger, but he got started getting pressure to be stricter about the
rules (no alcohol, parking only in the (too small) lot, etc). And yes,
the gate had to be locked at 10:00 pm (but we were allowed to provide a
gate guard who could open and close it for late arrivals or departures).
And you couldn't pre-reserve the camping areas, so the autocrat had to
get there at 8 am on the Friday of the event to snag the sites we
usually used. An additional bonus was that you could pre-reserve the
cabins - 1 slept about 12, the other about 40 (common-room style).
Those cost about $10 a day, and often the autocrat and/or visiting
nobility were given first shot to pay for its use.

Subject: [Coastal] question for the Houston area ...

i have a question. Seveal years ago we used a site over in the Kingwood
area called Lake Houston State Park. I was wondering why we stopped
using it. Can anyone give me an idea? The site was really nice, had
real bathrooms, showers, and a nice lodge with a real kitchen. What
happened?
