SCA law and custom state that anyone who ATTEMPTS to maintain a
period appearance is welcome in the SCA. So newbies, or poor college
students who make a reasonable attempt given their experience and budget
are always welcome. And this has always been tempered by common sense
regarding eyeglasses baby stuff, etc.
Kingdom law states that nothing blatantly modern may be displayed
without crown or autocrat permission. This has never been enforced as
written, exceptions have always been made for tents, baby stuff,
toilets, handicapped equipment, etc. Permission is assumed, even if
never given. If enforced as written this would conflict with the SCA
and would have to be removed from kingdom law.
Could someone more familiar with SCA policies check this, it would
seem possible that as a branch, we can not deny participation to anyone
making a reasonable attempt to appear period. I have seen similar
things done but always by a household.
