Since Kingdom Sumptuary Law isn't published anywhere handy
(as it's not actually law, but policies of the Herald's
Office), it might be a tad difficult to just look up.

But 1/2" is the upper limit.  The point is that someone just
getting into the SCA, seeing all that regalia for the first
time, shouldn't be likely to mistake your circlet for a 
coronet of rank.
