ES - armor question

the 14 for the helm i knew thetas why i was going to go 14 for the entire 
thing. for 30 bucks. but several people have said 14 would be to heavy for 
rest of armor. thetas why i had thoughts of getting 14 and 16 gauge. but that 
will cost more to get less metal. weight and cost are the two biggest 
factors. guess what my big concern is which to be more concern about   weight 
and get less metal for more money or save a lil money and get  the heavier 
metal. would  the 14 be that much heavier?
